How to Plan a Yacht Party in Phuket
Share
A party on a private boat looks effortless on the day, but it rests on a handful of decisions made a few weeks earlier. Get those right and the day runs itself: the crew handles the sea, you handle the playlist. This guide walks through the planning in the order that actually matters, using the boats and prices of our own line-up.
Step 1: Count the crew honestly
Every boat has a fixed guest maximum, and it counts everyone aboard – the organiser, the children, the photographer you hired. Start with a realistic list, then add a small margin for the friend who joins at the last minute. The number decides more than anything else which boat you can book.
- Up to 12 guests: every boat in the line-up is open to you, including the motor yacht Velvet Night 55.
- Up to 20: Afterglow 65 joins the options, alongside the catamarans and the superyacht.
- Up to 25: Midnight Pulse 102, Neon Tide 50 and Bassline 55.
- Up to 30: the two sailing catamarans.
- Up to 40: Bassline 55.
Step 2: Pick the vibe, then the boat
Decide what kind of party it is before you fall in love with a photo. A pool party needs a slide or a floating sea pool, which points to Bassline 55, Afterglow 65 or Midnight Pulse 102. A crowd that wants to dance needs flat, open deck space, and the catamarans deliver that. A small group that values shade, air-conditioning and a lounge feel is happier on a motor yacht.
Our Party Builder does this sorting for you: choose a vibe and a crew size and it hides the boats that do not fit.
Step 3: Choose a time slot
There are three common formats. The sunset session lasts about three hours, usually leaving in the late afternoon and coming back after dark; it suits groups that want dinner on land afterwards. A half day of five hours is the standard island-hopping party with two or three stops. A full day of eight hours lets the boat reach further, and it is the format Midnight Pulse 102 is booked in.
Longer is not always better. Five hours on the water in the tropical sun is plenty for most groups, especially with children or guests who are not used to boats.
Step 4: Agree a route with the season in mind
From Chalong Pier in the south, party boats head to Coral Island, Racha Yai and the small island of Maiton, or follow the west coast for the sunset. From Ao Po Grand Marina in the north-east, they sail into the sheltered limestone scenery of Phang Nga Bay. Our party routes page describes each one.
The calmest sea runs from November to April. During the south-west monsoon, from May to October, swell can build on the open water and the captain may move the party to more sheltered spots. Whatever you plan, the captain decides the route on the day.
Step 5: Stack the add-ons
A boat comes with captain and crew, fuel for the planned route, soft drinks, ice and fresh fruit, a sound system, snorkelling gear, kayak, paddleboard and life jackets. Everything beyond that is an add-on, quoted on request:
- A DJ and a sound upgrade for bigger decks
- LED lighting and party decoration
- A photographer and a drone
- BBQ or catering
- Extra floats and inflatables
- Hotel transfer to the pier
Choose them early, because some suppliers need time to prepare. The add-ons page explains what each one involves.
Step 6: Send one request
When the plan is roughly clear, send it as a single request: date, crew size, vibe, time slot, route preference and add-ons. We check availability with the boat operator and reply with one offer that holds the boat, the extras, the pier and the plan. Nothing is reserved until you accept it, and the deposit and cancellation terms are confirmed in your booking.
A budget in one table
Prices are for the whole boat, never per person. Listed prices include 7% VAT. Dividing by the guest maximum gives a feel for the cost per head:
| Boat | From | Max guests | Per head at full crew |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neon Tide 50 | ฿49,000 / 5 h | 30 | about ฿1,630 |
| Bassline 55 | ฿59,000 / 5 h | 40 | about ฿1,480 |
| Velvet Night 55 | ฿79,000 / 5 h | 12 | about ฿6,580 |
| Afterglow 65 | ฿110,000 / 5 h | 20 | about ฿5,500 |
| Midnight Pulse 102 | ฿390,000 / 8-h day | 25 | about ฿15,600 |
Remember the costs outside the boat price: national-park fees are charged per person and paid on the day, and food, add-ons and transfers are quoted separately. Full details sit on the prices page.
Common planning mistakes
- Booking a boat for the exact head count and then having to leave someone ashore
- Planning a long open-water route in the middle of the monsoon
- Forgetting that swimming happens at anchor, never while the boat is moving
- Expecting club volume in national-park bays, where the music is kept respectful
- Ordering catering the day before, when suppliers are already full
FAQ
How far ahead should we book a party boat?
As early as your date is fixed. Weekends from November to April fill up quickly, so a few weeks ahead is sensible; for other dates, ask anyway.
Can we change the plan after booking?
Many details can be adjusted. How changes are handled is set out in your booking, and the captain always decides the final route on the day.
Do we need to bring anything?
Swimwear, sunscreen, a hat and a dry bag for phones. Towels, life jackets and snorkelling gear are already on board.
Got the crew size and a date? Run the builder and send the plan in one go – we reply with the boats that are free and a final price.
